Shifting of seasons, of light, of pace.

Shifting of seasons, of light, of pace.

This picture was taken at home on the last day of summer. I hadn't slept well and was happy to see the sun rising with a glimpse of moon still in the sky.

This summer was like most I have experienced on the island. Busy. With too much work and not enough play. Lots of learning and dialing things in at the shop.

Ahhh but now it's almost October which is my birthday month and my favorite for so many reasons. Mostly sweaters and pumpkin pie and birthday cake. This week also marks my 10 year anniversary on the island!!! I can't believe I packed it all up and drove my Volvo out here and all of this amazing stuff has happened!

Here's a summary...

I came with no job and no place to live. With just my most favorite things I could fit in my car. We quickly found a sweet house at the end of a long gravel road surrounded by trees to land. I bought a landscaping business and used a local glass blower's studio to get rolling. I signed up for every art related gig I could including the farmer's market and the August Friday night market, and went to galleries to get on lists for all the things.

I got a job waiting tables at my most favorite restaurant and rented my own studio space in a business park. I scored a little booth of my own at Roche Harbor Resort that I shared with many other lovely artists for 5 whole years.

We got married and bought a house! I got too busy with my art to landscape and then too busy to work at the restaurant. We made me a home studio and got the sweetest cat. I made sooo many friends.

In December of 2019 I gave it all up to open my little FERN shop. Since I've been immensely grateful, usually very overwhelmed, and oh so happy to be living my dream out of this 100 square foot space on this gorgeous island in the Salish Sea.

Pretty relieved for the change of seasons and a reason to shift into a slower gear.

I can't wait to see what the next 10 years has in store for me. Thanks so much for following along!
